Kamala Harris made a return visit to Detroit this week in an effort to engage and energize Black voters. She brought with her a range of new policy proposals designed to resonate with this key demographic and participated in a town hall hosted by popular radio personality Charlamagne tha God. The event, which also included an exclusive watch party at a Black-owned speakeasy, aimed to connect with insiders and voters in the community.

Despite these efforts, it seems that Harris is still struggling to make a significant impact outside of her carefully orchestrated campaign events. Detroit residents like Ashley Johnson, who had not yet watched the town hall, appreciate Harris’s efforts to engage with the community but feel that she may not be fully connecting with them.

This challenge highlights the importance of Detroit’s Black electorate in the upcoming election, as Harris needs their support to secure a victory in Michigan. However, polls suggest that Harris is facing difficulties with Black male voters, with some expressing nostalgia for the economic policies of former President Donald Trump.

One such voter, Quaviaus Rodriguez, who owns over 25 houses in Detroit, credits Trump’s policies for his success and is voting for the former president. Rodriguez, who has had personal experiences with the criminal justice system due to marijuana possession, remains unconvinced by Harris’s efforts to address these issues.

Harris has attempted to address concerns about her past as a prosecutor and attorney general, emphasizing her progressive stance on marijuana cases and advocating for reforms in the legal cannabis industry. Despite these efforts, voters like Rodriguez remain unswayed by her platform.

In response to criticisms and challenges, Harris has engaged with Black media outlets and participated in interviews to address concerns and promote her agenda. However, some voters remain skeptical of her policies and track record, particularly on issues like immigration and gender reassignment surgery for inmates.

As the election draws near, Harris continues to make her case to Detroit voters, emphasizing her plans to support Black entrepreneurs and address systemic inequalities. Despite facing criticism and skepticism, Harris remains determined to win over voters and secure victory in the upcoming election.

At a recent watch party in Detroit, Harris received a warm reception from supporters who praised her for her efforts to connect with the community. As she addressed the crowd and received a T-shirt from a local entrepreneur, Harris reiterated her commitment to Detroit and her belief in the city’s resilience and potential.

As the campaign heats up and Election Day approaches, Harris remains focused on engaging with voters and making her case for the presidency. Despite facing challenges and criticism, Harris is determined to win over Detroit and secure victory in Michigan.
