Arch Manning, the talented quarterback from Isidore Newman High School, faced a challenging start to his college football career at Texas. As a third-string quarterback in his first season, Manning struggled in the 2023 spring game, ultimately leading to Maalik Murphy being named as the backup to starter Quinn Ewers in the fall camp. This decision left Manning with limited game time throughout the 2023 season.

Despite the setback, Manning remained determined and focused on improving his skills for the upcoming seasons. When Murphy transferred to Duke before the College Football Playoff game against Washington in December, Manning shared his mentality towards his role on the team. He emphasized the importance of preparing as if he were the starter every week, acknowledging that being just one play away required a different level of readiness.

In 2024, following Murphy’s departure, Manning’s role at Texas significantly increased. As the primary backup option, he received more playing time and valuable experience, positioning himself for a potential starting role in 2025. Despite rumors of a possible transfer after Ewers decided to return for his senior year, Manning chose to stay with the Longhorns, citing a strong connection with Ewers and a desire to continue his development within the team.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian praised Manning’s rapport with Ewers and highlighted the quarterback’s coachability and work ethic as key factors in his growth and success. Manning started two games in the absence of Ewers during the 2024 season, showcasing his potential and impressing fans with his performance. He has thrown for 901 yards and nine touchdowns so far, giving a glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming seasons.
