During the U.S. Open semifinal match against Jack Draper, Jannik Sinner of Italy suffered a FOOSH injury, which stands for “fall on an outstretched hand.” This occurred during a crucial point in the second set of his victory over Draper. Sinner, the top seed in the tournament, fell on his left wrist while reaching for a shot, causing concern for his upcoming final match against Taylor Fritz.

FOOSH injuries are common and can range from minor bruising to more severe issues such as fractures or dislocations. Sinner received immediate treatment for his wrist after the fall, including icing and massage. While there were no apparent fractures or dislocations, the extent of the soft tissue damage remains to be seen.

Despite being right-handed, Sinner’s left wrist plays a significant role in his game. From his two-handed backhand to his forehand and serve, any impairment in his left wrist could impact his performance on the court. As he prepares for the final match, Sinner will likely focus on reducing swelling and maintaining mobility in his wrist through rest, ice, compression, elevation, and possibly physical therapy.

With the uncertainty surrounding his injury, the outcome of the U.S. Open men’s singles final remains up in the air. Sinner’s ability to adapt and perform with a potentially compromised wrist will be a key factor in determining the result of the match.
