John Conway, 35, is facing murder charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Alexander Nesteruk, 34, in Lincoln Park last week. Nesteruk was shot in the chest on November 27th and tragically passed away on Monday. This incident marks the first murder in Lincoln Park since October 2022.
Chicago police investigators executed a search warrant at Conway’s residence in the 2600 block of North Lakeview, not far from the shooting scene on North Clark Street. Surveillance images of a suspect were released to the public on Tuesday, leading to Conway’s arrest on Wednesday night. A reader of CWBChicago recognized Conway as someone who frequented his gym near Lincoln and Fullerton, describing him as a mysterious individual who always wore black clothing and kept to himself.
During Conway’s court appearance, more details about the events that unfolded on Clark Street will be revealed by police and prosecutors. The local alderman mentioned that Nesteruk was exhibiting erratic and aggressive behavior before the shooting, engaging with the offender in a confrontational manner. Witnesses reported that Nesteruk was getting in people’s faces prior to the tragic incident.
