A tragic incident unfolded in Willingboro Township, New Jersey, as a Pennsylvania father, Junior Edwards, was arrested and charged with the fatal shooting of the mother of his son, Catherine Nunez, and the boy’s grandmother, Marisol Nunez. The heinous double homicide took place in the victims’ home while Catherine’s 8-year-old son was present.
The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Edwards, 37, broke into the home in the early hours of Wednesday, where he allegedly shot Catherine and Marisol multiple times in an upstairs bedroom. Despite the horrifying ordeal, the child was unharmed during the attack.
The motive behind the senseless act remains unclear, but the victims’ family described Edwards as a “monster” who had previously made threats against them. Wilson Nunez, Marisol’s brother and Catherine’s uncle, expressed the family’s devastation, calling the tragedy an “American nightmare.”
Catherine, who worked for a utility firm in New York City, would often leave her son with Marisol when she traveled for work. The sudden loss of both women has left the family shattered, prompting them to start a GoFundMe page to cover funeral expenses.
After the incident, Edwards was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, home invasion burglary with a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and endangering the welfare of a child. These charges were added while he was already in custody in Philadelphia for unrelated offenses.
The community is left reeling from the tragic events that transpired in the quiet neighborhood, serving as a stark reminder of the fragility of life. As the investigation continues, the family seeks justice for Catherine and Marisol, honoring their memory and the love they shared with their young son.
