Fubo and TelevisaUnivision in Content Dispute
Fubo, a streaming pay-TV provider, announced that TelevisaUnivision has pulled its networks from the platform due to a disagreement over rates. Fubo claims that the move has left thousands of Spanish-speaking consumers without access to important local news and weather updates.
TelevisaUnivision responded by stating that Fubo was not willing to pay the market value for their programming. They mentioned that they have been trying to reach an agreement with Fubo but have been unable to do so due to the pricing dispute.
Fubo, on the other hand, claims that TelevisaUnivision is trying to increase prices by 25% for their subscribers and is engaging in unfair bundling practices. They argue that TelevisaUnivision’s dominant market position is forcing them to pay higher prices, which in turn impacts their customers.
Despite the disagreement, Fubo remains open to negotiating a new content agreement with TelevisaUnivision, but they emphasize that the terms must be fair for their subscribers. They want to ensure that Spanish-language content remains accessible at a competitive cost.
Earlier this month, TelevisaUnivision announced restructuring plans and layoffs, which will reduce their workforce by a percentage in the mid-to-high single digits. This move comes amidst the ongoing dispute with Fubo.
Despite the standoff with TelevisaUnivision, Fubo continues to offer a variety of Spanish-language networks on their platform, including popular channels like beIN Sports Español, ESPN Deportes, and Telemundo. This ensures that their Hispanic customers still have access to a range of programming options.
