The San Francisco 49ers suffered a shocking incident involving their first-round draft pick, Ricky Pearsall, who was shot and wounded during a robbery attempt in the troubled city on Saturday. The 23-year-old rookie wide receiver was targeted by a thief trying to steal his Rolex watch in San Francisco’s Union Square while on his way to a signing event, as reported by the San Francisco police department.
The altercation between Pearsall and the robber led to a struggle over a gun, resulting in Pearsall being shot in the chest. Both Pearsall and the suspect sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, Pearsall is currently in stable condition, according to KTVU.
San Francisco mayor London Breed expressed her concern for Pearsall and his family, stating, “My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time. We will provide more updates, including on his condition, as I receive them.”
The shooter has been apprehended by authorities, although charges are still pending. Pearsall’s teammate, Deebo Samuel, reassured fans by tweeting, “He’s good. Thank god!!!!”
Pearsall, a talented wide receiver from Arizona State University and the University of Florida, was selected 31st overall by the 49ers in this year’s draft. Despite missing the entire preseason due to a shoulder injury, Pearsall had recently started practicing with the team before the unfortunate incident occurred.
The San Francisco Police Department and the 49ers have been contacted for further information on the incident. The team and fans alike are hoping for Pearsall’s swift recovery and return to the football field.
