Bengaluru:
Addressing the 8th India Idea Conclave in Bengaluru, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized the need to protect Indian industries from unfair competition in the global market. He highlighted the importance of moving from ‘Make in India’ as an aspiration to an assertion, particularly in critical sectors like the semiconductor industry.
Jaishankar reiterated the government’s cautious approach towards foreign direct investments (FDI), ensuring that each negotiation considers the social, employment, and national security implications. This strategic shift under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership aims to build a strong ‘Brand Bharath’ by making tough decisions and prioritizing national interests.
Highlighting India’s successful engagement with the Middle East, Jaishankar debunked the traditional belief that strong ties with Israel would alienate other regional players. He credited PM Modi’s proactive approach for transforming Brand Bharath into an ambitious and decisive global brand that stands out for its willingness to make hard choices and invest resources in strategic partnerships.
The India Idea Conclave, organized by India Foundation, focuses on the theme of ‘building Brand Bharath’ and will conclude on November 24.
