During an interview aired on Monday, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris disclosed that she owns a Glock semi-automatic pistol and confirmed that she has fired it at a shooting range.
Harris stated, “I have a Glock, and I’ve had it for quite some time,” during her appearance on the CBS show 60 Minutes. She attributed her ownership to her background in law enforcement as a former prosecutor and California attorney general.
When asked if she had ever fired the Glock, Harris replied with a laugh, “Of course I have. At a shooting range. Yes, of course, I have.”
Glock handguns, manufactured in Austria, are widely popular in the United States, especially among law enforcement agencies. Despite her previous reluctance to discuss her gun ownership, Harris has recently started emphasizing her position as a gun owner amidst the ongoing election campaign against Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Trump has accused Harris of wanting to confiscate guns from Americans, a claim she vehemently denies. In fact, Harris reiterated her stance as a gun owner during an interview with Oprah Winfrey in September, where she jokingly mentioned that anyone breaking into her house would be shot.
Harris’s revelation about her Glock ownership was a significant highlight of the interview, where she also addressed various contentious issues such as immigration and the economy.
Unlike Trump, who declined to participate in a 60 Minutes interview, Harris engaged in tough questioning during the broadcast, showcasing her willingness to address challenging topics head-on.
