A 24-year-old man, Jose Perez, was taken into custody on charges of vehicular homicide following an incident where he allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian while driving under the influence and speeding on South Parker Road near Interstate 225 in the early hours of Sunday morning, as reported by the Aurora Police Department.

Authorities were called to South Parker Road near South Peoria Street at 5:56 a.m. in response to a serious collision, according to a press release from the Aurora police.

Upon investigation, it was determined that Perez, driving a white Infiniti SUV, was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on South Parker Road when he lost control, collided with another vehicle, and struck a pedestrian.

After hitting the pedestrian, Perez proceeded to crash into a light pole and two trees before finally coming to a halt at the intersection of South Parker Road and South Peoria Street, as confirmed by police.

The pedestrian, a male individual, tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The identity of the deceased will be disclosed by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office. Fortunately, no one in either vehicle sustained injuries.

Perez was apprehended on suspicion of vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, and reckless driving.

Due to the crash investigation, the southbound lanes of South Parker Road remained closed at South Peoria Street for 10 hours, the Aurora police announced in a post on X. Normal traffic flow was restored at 4 p.m.
