Using a VPN on your PlayStation 4 (PS4) or PlayStation 5 (PS5) is not as simple as it is on other devices like phones, laptops, and PCs. Sony doesn’t allow VPN apps to be installed on their consoles, which means you can’t just download a VPN app from the PlayStation Store. However, there are unofficial ways to use a VPN on your PS4 or PS5 to access content from different regions, improve online gaming performance, and more. Here are four methods to set up a VPN on your PS4 or PS5.

1. Set up a VPN via Wi-Fi Router:
Since your console connects to the internet through your router, you can set up a VPN connection on your router. Many modern routers support VPN connections, and you can manually input your VPN account details in the router settings. If your router doesn’t support VPN connections, you can consider investing in a router that does. This method allows all devices connected to the router to use the VPN connection.

2. Set up a Smart DNS:
If setting up a VPN router is too complicated, you can use a Smart DNS service. Smart DNS doesn’t encrypt your data like a VPN, but it allows you to change your console’s location. VPN providers like Surfshark, NordVPN, and ExpressVPN offer Smart DNS functionality. You can set up Smart DNS on your PS4 or PS5 by entering the DNS details provided by your VPN provider in the console settings.

3. Set up a VPN via Windows PC:
If your VPN doesn’t offer Smart DNS, you can share a VPN connection from your Windows PC to your console. This method requires your PC to have an Ethernet port and Wi-Fi. You need to install the VPN software on your PC, connect to the VPN, and share the connection with your console through the Ethernet cable.

4. Set up a VPN via Mac:
If you have a Mac with an Ethernet port and Wi-Fi, you can also share a VPN connection with your console. Install the VPN software on your Mac, connect to the VPN, and share the connection through the Mac’s Internet Sharing settings.

By following these methods, you can use a VPN on your PS4 or PS5 to access geo-locked content, improve online gaming performance, and more. Remember to choose a reliable VPN provider and follow the instructions carefully to set up the VPN connection successfully.
