Disney is making a big push to increase its Disney+ subscriber numbers before a price increase takes effect in October 2024. Starting Thursday, new and returning customers in the U.S. can take advantage of a special promotion offering the ad-supported Disney+ Basic plan for just $1.99/month for the first three months. This limited-time offer is available from September 12-27 at disneyplus.com, after which the price will revert to $9.99/month.
The timing of this promotion coincides with the upcoming release of highly anticipated content on Disney+, including Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” Marvel’s “Agatha All Along,” and the sequel to the popular Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place.” Disney is hoping that these blockbuster titles will attract more subscribers to the platform.
Since its launch in 2019, Disney+ has become the go-to streaming service for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more. In the latest quarter, Disney+ saw a net increase of 800,000 subscribers in the U.S. and Canada, bringing the total to 54.8 million. However, international Disney+ Core customers decreased slightly to 63.5 million. Disney is optimistic about continued growth in the upcoming quarter.
In addition to the promotional pricing, Disney+ is introducing a range of limited-time subscriber perks in the U.S. These perks include entry into a Disney Cruise Line sweepstakes, a free bundle of Marvel digital comics, discounts on Disney merchandise, exclusive in-game content for popular mobile games, and early access to merchandise tied to new releases like “Agatha All Along.” Subscribers can also purchase tickets to exclusive events like “D23 Tune-in to Terror: A Hollywood Halloween” in Los Angeles.
Overall, Disney is pulling out all the stops to attract new subscribers and retain existing ones ahead of the price increase. With a lineup of exciting content and special perks, Disney+ is positioning itself as a must-have streaming service for fans of Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and more.
