PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A fatal crash occurred early Saturday at a health club in Portland, Oregon, resulting in one death and the discovery of evidence suggesting an explosive device was present in the vehicle, according to police reports.
The Portland Police Bureau provided limited information about the event, which took place shortly before 3 a.m. at the Multnomah Athletic Club. Established in 1891, the club is described as the largest private athletic and social facility in the United States, with over 21,000 members.
Authorities confirmed that the deceased individual was located inside the vehicle after the fire was extinguished.
In a statement, club spokesperson Adam Linnman conveyed that the incident happened while the club was closed, ensuring that no members or staff were harmed. Linnman noted that club officials are relying on local and federal authorities for more details.
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives confirmed that special agents were responding to the scene.
