A tragic incident occurred when a 10-year-old boy, who had wandered away from his home while sleepwalking in the middle of the night, was discovered deceased in a pond, as reported by the police.
Jackson S. Georgari was found unresponsive in the water at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, near the Briarcliff Village shopping center in Kansas City. This location is about a mile south of his home, where he was last observed around 12 hours prior, according to the Kansas City Police.
Emergency responders pulled Jackson from the pond and attempted life-saving measures, but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by Capt. Jake Becchina, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department, told The Kansas City Star.
The cause of Jackson’s death is yet to be determined, although there were no immediate indications of foul play, according to police. A medical examiner is set to conduct an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death, officials stated.
Before the tragic discovery on Thursday, Jackson’s family told KMBC 9 that he had a history of sleepwalking and did not know how to swim.
“The first incident happened when we were in San Diego. He sleepwalked, and someone found him on the street and called 911. They brought him back safely,” said Semina Richard, Jackson’s sister.
“The second time was here. We recently moved from San Diego to Missouri. He wandered away again and went all the way to his school, which is the only place he recognizes,” she added.
The police have stated that the investigation is ongoing.

The Parent Teacher Organization at Briarcliff Elementary School, where Jackson was a student, has called upon the school community to remember his family in their thoughts.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the student’s family, friends, classmates, teachers, and everyone whose lives were touched by him,” the organization posted on Facebook.
