Cook County Crime Stoppers Offers $10,000 Reward for Information on River North Shooting
Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to arrests in a recent River North shooting. The incident took place early Sunday morning, where gunmen fired at least 50 shots, resulting in the death of a 34-year-old man and critically injuring three others. This marks the third mass shooting in the River North neighborhood since July.
The shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 400 block of North LaSalle Street, a popular nightlife area with numerous bars, clubs, and late-night venues. According to the Chicago Police Department, four men were getting into a car when four gunmen approached on foot and opened fire.
The victims were reportedly entering a brightly-colored Lamborghini SUV, which rolled forward and came to a stop on LaSalle Street just outside a parking lot ramp. Responding officers found one victim inside the SUV, two others lying in the street near the intersection, and a fourth victim nearby.
The 34-year-old man who sustained multiple gunshot wounds succumbed to his injuries at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The other victims, aged 35, 36, and 43, were also taken to the same hospital and are currently in critical condition, as per police reports.
Paul Rutherford, Executive Director of Cook County Crime Stoppers, condemned the violent act, stating, βThis was a brazen and violent act that took one life and left three others fighting for their lives. Someone knows who is responsible. Your information, no matter how small it may seem, could be the key to bringing justice to the victims and their families.β
Investigators found numerous shell casings scattered across LaSalle Street and Hubbard Street. A witness mentioned that four men had exited a “soccer mom” style minivan and approached the victims before the shooting. Detectives are currently investigating the possible connection between these individuals and the attack.
During the investigation at the scene, officers had to intervene in multiple fights among bystanders who had gathered near the shooting site. Further disturbances were reported outside Northwestern Memorial Hospital as friends and associates of the victims arrived, causing additional challenges for law enforcement.
