A man from Chicago has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for robbing an off-duty police officer at gunpoint in Rogers Park last year.
Teon Ticey, 26, entered a guilty plea for armed robbery and received his sentence from Judge Diana Kenworthy, as per the court documents. He could be eligible for release as early as October 2030, depending on good behavior.
According to prosecutors, Ticey and an accomplice targeted both the off-duty officer, aged 28, and another victim, aged 26, in the early hours of November 17, 2024, on North Lakewood Avenue. The two victims had just left a local establishment when they were confronted. One of the assailants brandished a semi-automatic AK-47-style pistol and demanded their belongings.

The officer turned over his wallet and two cell phones, while the other victim surrendered cash, a necklace, and a phone, according to the prosecutors.
More than 12 hours after the incident, a surveillance officer from the Chicago police spotted the suspects’ Ford Fusion on 71st Street near Cottage Grove Avenue. Officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested Ticey, discovering a woman in the passenger seat who was allegedly in possession of the officer’s credit and debit cards at the time.
Prior court records indicate that Ticey had a history with the judicial system. In 2022, he was sentenced to prison on two separate occasions: five years for aggravated battery against a peace officer and another two years for forgery. The battery charge was linked to an armed habitual criminal case, while the forgery conviction arose from allegations of escaping electronic monitoring.
