A 14-year-old boy in Hyde Park took matters into his own hands last night, critically injuring a man who had pulled a knife on a woman during a domestic altercation. According to Chicago police, the incident occurred in the 4800 block of South Drexel around 11:02 p.m.
The man and woman involved in the domestic dispute, both 33 years old, were inside a home when the man armed himself with a knife. Upon seeing the weapon, the teenage boy reportedly produced a handgun and fired at the man. The gunshot wound entered the man’s shoulder and exited near his armpit, leaving him in critical condition.
Police officers recovered a firearm and two shell casings from inside the home. Detectives are currently interviewing the 14-year-old, who is being referred to as a “person of interest” in the case.
