A violent incident unfolded in the West Rogers Park neighborhood on Monday afternoon, as a teenage boy was shot during a fight. The chaotic scene led to a juvenile suspect being taken into custody by Chicago Police.
The turmoil began around 3:19 p.m. when multiple 911 calls flooded in, reporting both a physical altercation and gunfire in the 6400 block of North Washtenaw Avenue. Witnesses described hearing gunshots and witnessing a group of young individuals fleeing from the basement of a nearby residence. One caller even reported physically restraining the alleged gunman at the scene.
Law enforcement swiftly responded to the scene, where they discovered a 15-year-old boy who had sustained a through-and-through gunshot wound to his left side. Despite the severity of his injury, the victim was said to be in fair condition. Quick-thinking officers applied a chest seal to the wound, a crucial first-aid device that assists victims of upper-body gunshot wounds in breathing more effectively.
As the investigation unfolded, officers proceeded to take a juvenile suspect into custody at the scene, though official details from the Chicago Police Department are pending release. This developing story will be updated with additional information as it becomes available.
