A 17-year-old boy, Angelo Carlin, has been charged with attempted murder after shooting a 16-year-old boy in the head during an attempted drug rip-off on the Southwest Side of Chicago. The victim, who has not been identified, is facing a long road to recovery after the violent incident.

According to prosecutors, Carlin arranged to buy marijuana from the victim through social media. The two agreed to meet in the 8100 block of South Scottsdale on March 28 to complete the deal. However, things took a dangerous turn when Carlin pulled out a gun and demanded that the victim hand over all of his marijuana.

In an attempt to escape, the victim tried to drive away, but Carlin fired a shot that struck him in the back of the head. The bullet exited through the boy’s right eye, leaving him blinded and causing him to crash into a parked car. Surveillance video of the incident helped identify Carlin, with three individuals positively identifying him from the footage.

Judge Susana Ortiz granted the state’s detention request for Carlin, who now faces serious charges for his actions. The victim, a resident of Cicero, is left to recover from his injuries and the trauma of the incident.

CWBChicago, a local news outlet focused on public safety reporting in Chicago, provided coverage of the incident. Founded in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown, the outlet has expanded its coverage area to include other North Side areas like Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, and Uptown. Their mission remains to provide accurate and detailed reporting on public safety issues, offering a perspective that mainstream media outlets may overlook.

As the victim continues his recovery and the legal process unfolds for Carlin, the community is left to grapple with the impact of this violent incident on their neighborhood. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
