Tragedy struck on Sunday afternoon in El Paso County, with two people losing their lives and two others sustaining injuries in a devastating crash, as reported by the Colorado State Patrol.
The collision between a Ram 3500 pickup truck and a Chevrolet Suburban SUV occurred near the intersection of Elbert Road and Murphy Road, prompting multiple calls to authorities at around 1:08 p.m. on Sunday. The crash site is located approximately 25 miles northeast of Colorado Springs and 3 miles south of Eastonville.
While the driver of the Ram remained at the scene, one passenger from the truck was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Tragically, two individuals inside the SUV did not survive the crash, and another was airlifted to a medical facility for urgent care.
The Colorado State Patrol is actively investigating the cause of the accident, and the intersection of Elbert and Murphy Roads has been closed for cleanup and further examination. Authorities have not provided an estimated time for when the intersection will reopen.
