Men and Teenager Arrested for Robbery in Uptown
Three individuals, including two men and a teenage boy, have been charged with robbery after allegedly attacking a CTA passenger and stealing his electric scooter in Uptown. Notably, one of the accused men had recently started probation for possessing a machine gun just two weeks prior to the incident.
The victim, a 21-year-old man, was on the Red Line heading north near Wilson on April 29 when Reason Gill and Michael Harris, both 18, along with a 15-year-old boy, approached him and inquired about purchasing his electric scooter, according to prosecutors.
Upon the victim’s refusal to sell the scooter, the group reportedly pushed him to the ground, with Harris punching him and seizing the scooter. Subsequently, one of the perpetrators taunted the victim to retrieve the scooter if he wanted it back. Unfortunately, due to a language barrier, the victim misunderstood and was once again assaulted by the group, with Gill even threatening him with a barricade.
After the incident, the victim sought help from passing Chicago police officers and reported the robbery. The officers swiftly apprehended Gill, Harris, and the teenager, returning the scooter to the victim in the process.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Gill had been placed on juvenile probation for a previous charge of machine gun possession on April 15. Judge James Murphy ordered Gill to remain detained pending trial for aggravated robbery. Similarly, Harris, in addition to the robbery charge, is facing further allegations for assaulting a security guard and a nurse at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center during an evaluation.
