A man identified as Safaeldin Daheya has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of a series of armed robberies in Chicago’s North Side. This incident occurred while he was already under electronic monitoring for a prior firearm-related offense.
According to reports, eyewitnesses described the robberies occurring as Daheya allegedly approached victims in a dark-colored SUV, brandishing a firearm and demanding money.
The crime spree unfolded late at night on August 28, 2023, with the first robbery reported around 11:23 p.m. in the 6200 block of North Talman, where he robbed a 23-year-old man. Following that, he struck again within half an hour, targeting victims in the 6300 blocks of North Rockwell and North California.
On the following day, Daheya continued his crime wave, robbing a 37-year-old man in the 6300 block of North Campbell shortly after midnight, and later a 23-year-old in the 6400 block of North Washtenaw at 11:09 p.m.
His criminal activities came to an end when state troopers located a stolen SUV connected to the robberies. After a pursuit that lasted about thirty minutes, Daheya was apprehended in the 3900 block of North Neva.
Faced with multiple counts of armed robbery, Daheya opted to plead guilty to two charges. The prosecution decided to drop the remaining robbery charges against him. In addition, Judge Angela Munari-Petrone imposed concurrent 20-year sentences for the two armed robbery counts against Daheya.
In a related matter, he was also sentenced to 15 years concurrently for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle, and aggravated fleeing, with an escape-from-electronic-monitoring charge being dismissed by the prosecution.
Daheya is required to serve at least half of his 20-year sentence before he is eligible for release, anticipated on August 19, 2033, assuming he exhibits good behavior.

CWBChicago was established in 2013 by a group of residents from Wrigleyville and Boystown who were frustrated with the misinformation prevalent in local Community Policing meetings. Over the years, our coverage has extended to include Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other areas on the North Side, but our mission remains to provide detailed public safety reporting that offers better context than mainstream media.
