A Repeat Offender Sentenced to 10 Years for Burglaries
A 25-time convicted felon, Vincente Charriez Colon, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for carrying out a series of residential burglaries on Chicago’s Northwest Side while still on parole for 19 armed robberies dating back to 1991.
Charriez, aged 62, pleaded guilty to all three counts and received concurrent six-year sentences for two counts, along with a consecutive four-year sentence for the third. The case was presided over by Judge Michael Hood.
Having been paroled in August 2022 after serving a lengthy prison term for the robberies, which included allegations of kidnapping and home invasion, Charriez returned to his criminal ways by burglarizing a woman’s home in the 3600 block of North Kedzie on July 26, 2023. Among the items stolen were two safes containing business licenses, $10,000 in cash, birth certificates, house and car titles, jewelry, and a pistol.
Following this incident, Charriez went on to break into another woman’s home in the 4100 block of North Kolmar three months later, stealing a laptop bag. On October 3, 2023, he allegedly entered a woman’s home in the 2800 block of North Rutherford and made off with her purse.
If Charriez maintains good behavior in prison, he is expected to serve only five out of the 10 years sentenced by Judge Hood. Additionally, his time in prison will be further reduced by 582 days of credit earned while wearing an ankle monitor during the case.
