The AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone is facing a new challenge from a 25-year-old star in the wrestling world. Momo Watanabe, a rising star in Japanese wrestling signed with STARDOM, has set her sights on Mercedes Mone. The two have a history as Watanabe previously challenged Mercedes for the TBS Championship at Revolution 2025 but was unsuccessful in capturing the title.
Currently, Momo Watanabe is gearing up to challenge Saya Kamitani for both the NJPW Strong Women’s and World of STARDOM Championship on November 3. Ahead of this double title match, Watanabe has made it clear that she intends to capture both titles and has put Mercedes on notice.
In a statement to Tokyo Sports, Watanabe expressed her desire to beat Mercedes for the NJPW Strong Women’s title, a belt that she feels is “strongly associated” with Mone. Watanabe has a history with the title, having held it for over 300 days before losing it in May. She currently holds an impressive total of 12 title belts from various promotions around the world.
Despite already holding a multitude of titles, including the TBS Championship, Mercedes Mone is not one to back down from a challenge. She is set to challenge Kris Statlander for the AEW Women’s World Championship at the Full Gear 2025 pay-per-view on November 22. This will mark the third encounter between Mone and Statlander, following two previous singles matches last year. Additionally, Mercedes is scheduled to defend her CMLL Women’s Championship against Olympia this coming Saturday on Collision.
As the rivalry between Mercedes Mone and Momo Watanabe heats up, fans can expect to see some intense and exciting matches in the near future. Both women are determined competitors with impressive accolades, making their upcoming showdowns must-see events for wrestling fans everywhere.
