A 25-year-old man suffered critical injuries when a smiling passenger stabbed him several times during an altercation aboard a Queens subway on Sunday night, according to police reports.
The victim was on board a Manhattan-directed 7 train traveling through the 111th Street station in Corona around 11:30 p.m. when his assailant attacked from behind, stabbing him once in the neck and twice in the back with an “unknown sharp object,” as per police statements.
Authorities noted that the two men were strangers but engaged in a verbal dispute prior to the stabbing.
The details surrounding their confrontation remain unclear.
Initially reported as stabilized, the victim was later described as being in critical condition at New York Presbyterian/Queens Hospital.
Subsequently, the NYPD released a surveillance image showing the suspect smiling while onboard the train, dressed in a black Champion hoodie pulled over his head, along with light-colored pants and black sneakers.
