WWE NXT kicked off with a bang after Vengeance Day, with the top champion Oba Femi in the ring addressing the attack he faced from masked men. The show had the potential to deliver a solid episode, but unfortunately, it fell short in several areas due to some major mistakes.
One of the notable moments of the night was the debut of ex-AEW star Ricky Starks, who revealed his new name as Ricky Saints. While the name change may not have been a bad decision on paper, keeping his original name could have been a better choice.
Jordynne Grace also made a strong statement in the women’s division after her presence at Vengeance Day. She wasted no time in making an impact on Tuesday night.
However, there were three significant mistakes that WWE made on the episode of NXT following Vengeance Day.
1. The face-off between Oba Femi and Moose lacked impact: Oba Femi called out the masked men who attacked him, but instead of them, TNA’s Moose appeared. While their staredown was intense, the promos fell flat due to cliched remarks. A tease and a face-off would have sufficed to build anticipation for a future match between the two stars.
2. Continued feuds post Vengeance Day: WWE NXT had some exciting matches at Vengeance Day to conclude rivalries, but the creative team chose to extend feuds like Trick Williams vs. Eddy Thorpe and Ethan Page vs. Je’Von Evans. The storylines could have been wrapped up instead of dragging them further.
3. Jordynne Grace’s quick alliance with the women’s champions: Jordynne Grace teamed up with NXT Women’s Champion Giulia and Women’s North American Champion Stephanie Vaquer after saving them from an attack. While the win was impressive, it felt rushed to see her align with the top champions immediately. Building a rivalry with Fatal Influence first could have added more depth to her character.
Overall, WWE NXT had its moments, but these mistakes hindered the potential of the episode. The creative team could have taken a different approach to elevate the storylines and characters effectively. Fans can only hope for better decisions in the future episodes of NXT.
