Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX) is a retail coffee giant with a market cap of $110 billion, generating $9.9 billion in revenue in the first quarter of fiscal 2026. Despite its global presence with over 41,000 stores, the company has been facing challenges, leading to a 23% decline in shares from their peak.

However, there is a lesser-known coffee stock that is outperforming Starbucks in the industry. Dutch Bros (NYSE: BROS) has been making waves with its unique approach to the market. Unlike leading chains that rely on peak morning hours for sales, Dutch Bros generates almost 75% of its revenue after 10 a.m., allowing for more consistent sales throughout the day. This strategy also supports the company’s goal of achieving $1.8 million in average annual unit volumes.

Moreover, Dutch Bros is focusing on expanding its food offerings to attract a wider audience. CEO Christine Barone mentioned during an earnings call that the company aims to become a one-stop shop during the morning daypart, emphasizing its commitment to growth and innovation.

In terms of performance, Dutch Bros has consistently reported same-store sales growth for 12 consecutive quarters, showcasing its operational strength and market positioning. In contrast, Starbucks recently posted six quarters of declining same-store sales before seeing a turnaround in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Despite its smaller market cap of $9 billion and fewer locations compared to Starbucks, Dutch Bros has significant room for expansion. The company’s leadership believes there is potential to open 7,000 stores in the U.S., especially in untapped regions like the eastern and northern parts of the country. This growth potential indicates a promising future for Dutch Bros in terms of revenue and earnings.

Investors looking for growth opportunities may find Dutch Bros a compelling option, as the company’s performance and expansion plans suggest a bright outlook for the stock. With a track record of strong sales and a strategic focus on innovation, Dutch Bros could be a hidden gem in the competitive coffee market.

In conclusion, while Starbucks remains a dominant player in the industry, Dutch Bros is proving to be a formidable competitor with its unique approach and growth potential. As the coffee market continues to evolve, investors may want to keep an eye on Dutch Bros as it continues to run laps around its more established counterpart.
