Grizz Chapman, the actor known for his role on NBC’s comedy series “30 Rock,” passed away on Friday at the age of 52.
In “30 Rock,” Chapman portrayed a bodyguard for Tracy Morgan’s character, working alongside Kevin Brown, who played a fellow bodyguard named Dot Com. Brown announced Chapman’s passing on Friday via Facebook, saying, “I regret to inform you that Mack Chapman aka Grizz Chapman passed today. May he RIP.”
Donte “Hammer” Harrison, a member of the Harlem Globetrotters, identified Chapman as his cousin and noted that he had succumbed to an illness.
Harrison expressed his sorrow, stating, “Life gave my cousin Grizz Chapman some heavy battles, but he fought them with strength and dignity until the very end. A lot of people knew him as the sitcom star from 30 Rock, but we knew the man behind the screen. A good heart, good energy, and somebody who made an impact in this life. After years of fighting illness and dialysis, he passed peacefully in his sleep on May 22nd, 2026. I’m thankful we got time to reconnect 2 months before his passing. Rest easy, cousin. Your name and legacy will live on forever.”
In a commentary for an episode of “30 Rock,” Chapman had shared that he met Tracy Morgan while working as a bouncer at a strip club, which led to their friendship. Beyond “30 Rock,” Chapman and Brown appeared on an episode of HGTV’s “Hidden Potential,” and Chapman became a spokesperson for the National Kidney Foundation following a kidney transplant.
Chapman leaves behind his wife and two children.
