A man with two previous robbery convictions has been sentenced for a third violent offense, this time involving an attack on two women in a downtown CTA pedway. Prosecutors reported that both victims sustained concussions. The case was reportedly solved when an anonymous tipster identified Giles from CTA surveillance footage released by Chicago police after the incident.

Tremaine Giles, 27, admitted to the robbery charge before Judge Carol Howard, resulting in a six-year prison term related to the January 24, 2025, incident in the Jackson pedway, as per court documents.

According to prosecutors, the attack occurred late at night as two women from Lakeview, aged 22 and 25, were walking through the underground passage connecting the Blue Line and Red Line stations. Giles allegedly obstructed their path by spreading his arms, preventing them from moving forward.

Giles then reportedly grabbed the younger woman by the chest, pushed her against a wall, and insulted her while attempting to take her backpack. Meanwhile, two unidentified accomplices allegedly stopped the second woman from helping her friend.

Prosecutors added that Giles slapped the older woman in the face, yanked her by the hair, and slammed her into a wall. He eventually escaped with the 25-year-old’s purse but failed to seize the backpack from the first victim.

Both women required medical attention and were diagnosed with concussions, according to the prosecutors. One victim also experienced some hearing loss due to the assault.

Giles’s six-year sentence is subject to reduction by half for good behavior, setting a potential release date of May 1, 2028. Court records indicate that Giles had previously served a six-year sentence for robbing a person over 60 in Bridgeview. Prosecutors also mentioned a prior robbery conviction during his juvenile years.
