A man from Chicago, aged 45, is facing murder charges following a fatal shooting incident during an early morning confrontation in Old Town, which took place on Independence Day in 2021.

The tragic events unfolded around 6 a.m. when Dimontie Wallace, who was 38 years old, engaged in an argument with the mother of his child while inside a vehicle. After exiting the car, Wallace began walking down the street.

According to officials, as the woman drove a short distance away, she witnessed Wallace in a verbal exchange with another man in the vicinity of the 200 block of West Division. Their argument escalated into a physical altercation, during which Wallace, who was not armed, struck the other man with a punch. The other individual retaliated, and Assistant State’s Attorney Danny Hanichak revealed in a detention filing that the man then withdrew a handgun and shot Wallace in the chest.
