Uncertainty continues to surround Kyle Shanahan’s car accident from last month, with questions remaining unanswered nearly a month after the event.

Shanahan sustained a concussion, broken ribs, and a fractured hand in the accident. Later in July, he clarified that he, not the 21-year-old woman initially reported, was at fault for the collision.

“I hit her,” Shanahan stated. “I don’t know why it was reported that way. The police report doesn’t say that.”

San Francisco 49ers analyst Tony Farmer has raised additional concerns regarding Kyle Shanahan’s version of the incident.

In a video released on Saturday, Farmer expressed that the status of the official accident report leaves room for doubt about the events.

“I’m telling you guys right now. Kyle is in major s**t,” Farmer said. “If we eventually get that accident report, and it says she’s at fault, because that would mean that the clerical error story was not accurate.”

Farmer noted that while clerical errors can occur in government databases, an official report blaming the other driver would question the initial explanation. He also questioned why the report has not been disclosed if Shanahan’s account is correct.

“You could understand how a government database could be wrong,” he added. “If that report says she was at fault, not only does it mean the Palo Alto Police Department was trying to pin this on the 21-year-old woman, it means Kyle lied too, because he told beat reporters, I don’t know why they would say that…

“I’m going to ask it again because it’s fu**ing important. Tell me one good reason why they would not release the accident report if Kyle’s story’s accurate and true. Why not?”

According to Shanahan, the July 14 accident in Palo Alto occurred when he looked down after dropping his phone, causing his Tesla to veer into the opposite lane and collide with another vehicle.

Shanahan later confirmed the car’s autopilot feature was active at the time.

The 49ers coach suffered multiple injuries, while the other driver had only minor injuries. Eventually, officials decided not to press charges against either party.

Kyle Shanahan expected to coach 49ers’ preseason opener after recovery progress

Kyle Shanahan has indicated he is nearing full recovery. He plans to be on the sidelines when the San Francisco 49ers begin their preseason against the Tennessee Titans on Thursday.

He spoke on Saturday about his recovery progress since the accident that resulted in a concussion.

“I’m doing real good. My body feels good. I’ve just got to get this annoying cast off,” Shanahan stated. “My head feels so much better.”

The experienced coach mentioned that while he still experiences minor headaches and fatigue, these symptoms are manageable.

Although Shanahan has reduced some of his responsibilities during camp, assistant head coach Chris Foerster and the rest of the coaching staff have stepped in to handle additional duties. Shanahan continues to review practice tapes and participate in player evaluations.

The next stage of his return will occur this week as the Niners conduct joint practices with Tennessee before their preseason opener.
