Man Faces Multiple Felony Charges for Alleged Sexual Abuse Incidents in Chicago’s Beverly Neighborhood
A 29-year-old man, Jabreel Watson, is facing multiple felony charges for allegedly targeting six females in a series of sexual abuse, battery, and assault incidents in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood last week. Watson was ordered detained by Judge Rivanda Beal.
The first incident occurred at 9:30 p.m. on June 22 in the 9800 block of South Walden when a 17-year-old girl was walking home after a nail appointment. She noticed Watson beside her, who made advances towards her. Despite her rejection and explanation that she had a boyfriend, Watson continued to make explicit sexual comments, grabbed her buttocks, and squeezed her breast multiple times. The teen recorded audio of the encounter, during which Watson followed her, propositioned her for sex, and claimed to have a gun. When she pointed her phone camera at him, he fled, and the victim reported the incident to her mother who then called the police.
The following morning, another woman was walking in the 1500 block of West 103rd Street when Watson approached her shirtless, made highly sexual comments, and grabbed her buttocks. After she slapped his hand, he attempted to grab her between her legs. The woman tried to walk away, but Watson blocked her path near a bus stop, claiming he had just been released from prison for killing someone. He then grabbed her wrist and suggested he could be her pimp. The woman managed to break free, and Watson fled down an alley.
Later that evening, another woman in the 10200 block of South Wood noticed Watson following her as she walked home. Fearing for her safety, she fled, and Watson pursued her until a man intervened and offered her shelter in his apartment. Watson is charged with a misdemeanor assault in this incident.
Less than 20 minutes later, in the 9900 block of South Wood, a woman and her daughter were walking when Watson began following them. Despite their protests, he grabbed the mother by the waist and buttocks. The daughter called 911, prompting Watson to walk away, but he later chased the daughter down Beverly Glen Parkway, grabbed her buttocks, and fled.
The final incident occurred at 10:20 p.m. on June 23 in the 9500 block of South Ashland. A woman waiting for a bus was approached by Watson, who made advances towards her. When she refused, he pushed her against a wall, groped her breasts, and held her to prevent escape. He then moved her to a bus stop bench, where he continued to sexually assault her. Passersby eventually intervened and escorted the woman to safety.
Watson is facing charges including aggravated battery, criminal sexual abuse, attempted criminal sexual abuse, unlawful restraint, and misdemeanor assault in connection with these incidents.
