Celebrating 65 Years of the Peace Corps: A Legacy of Service and Leadership
For a remarkable 250 years, the spirit of volunteerism, generosity, and commitment to serving others has been woven into the fabric of our Nation’s identity. As we mark the 65th anniversary of the Peace Corps, we pay tribute to the nearly 250,000 volunteers who have embodied this legacy, demonstrating unwavering charity, goodwill, and dedication to the American promise.
Since its inception in 1961, Peace Corps volunteers have made their mark in 144 countries around the world, laying the groundwork for opportunities that uplift communities in need. Their efforts are a testament to the strength of American leadership—when we share our knowledge and set an example, we illuminate pathways to sustainable success for others. Since taking office last year, my Administration has propelled the Peace Corps to new heights. Last month, we proudly introduced the Tech Corps, a pioneering initiative designed to extend the reach of American artificial intelligence (AI) technology globally. This program deploys skilled volunteers to facilitate the integration of innovative AI solutions, enhancing public services in various communities. To ensure that the Peace Corps continues to embody the best of our Nation’s values, my Administration is dedicated to streamlining processes, ensuring that the agency’s resources are directed toward the vital work of our exceptional volunteers and the causes that prioritize our Nation, our citizens, and our interests.
From the founding days of our Republic, the mission of uplifting the most vulnerable has been central to our national ethos. For 65 years, Peace Corps volunteers have tirelessly championed this noble cause. Their daily endeavors reach communities in need of the guiding light provided by our Nation’s most dedicated citizens. As we commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Peace Corps and its remarkable achievements, we reaffirm our commitment to volunteerism. We honor the remarkable dedication of its volunteers and, above all, we pledge to empower them to continue their mission of charity in this promising new era of American leadership.
