21-Year-Old Sentenced to Eight Years for Carjacking in Little Village

A 21-year-old man, Khalil Ingram, faced sentencing on Friday after pleading guilty in three separate cases, including a carjacking incident in Little Village. The sentencing, handed down by Cook County Judge Mary Margaret Brosnahan, resulted in an effective eight-year prison term for Ingram.

Ingram pleaded guilty to unlawful restraint in connection to the carjacking, receiving a six-year prison term. He also pleaded guilty to aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, adding a consecutive two-year sentence, and aggravated battery of a peace officer, resulting in a concurrent six-year term.

The carjacking incident occurred in April 2023, where prosecutors alleged that Ingram, who was already on electronic monitoring for a felony gun charge, targeted a 29-year-old woman in Little Village. The woman was speaking with her mother on the phone when Ingram opened her car door, demanded her purse, and drove away in her car with her belongings inside.

Chicago police were able to locate the stolen car within hours by pinging the victim’s AirPods, which were also taken during the carjacking. Ingram was found inside the vehicle, and GPS data from his ankle monitor confirmed his involvement in the crime.

During the court proceedings, prosecutors revealed that Ingram had a history of seven juvenile adjudications, including three robberies. He was on juvenile parole for a previous carjacking when the Little Village incident occurred.

With the possibility of earning credit for good behavior, Ingram is expected to serve half of his eight-year sentence. Additionally, he has already accumulated 1,005 days of credit while in jail, further reducing his time behind bars.
