Amidst a fashion landscape that often promotes ostentation and grandiosity, Arthur Arbesser takes the road less traveled by embracing simplicity and authenticity. His latest haven—a transformed car-repair garage—serves as a creative sanctuary where he curates his vision. “I’m a fan of non-precious things,” Arbesser expresses, emphasizing his appreciation for the overlooked and the discarded. For him, beauty lies in the ordinary, and he aims to extract every bit of inspiration from the mundane.

Arbesser’s Fall ’25 collection signifies a bold departure from conventional fashion paradigms as he embraces a direct-to-consumer model, marking a thoughtful response to the quicksilver nature of the fashion industry. “Fashion often tries to push us towards excess. For an independent label like ours, sustainability is paramount. The freedom from industry pressures is a luxury we cherish,” he remarks. As he prepared to relocate into his “new home,” Arbesser unearthed nearly a decade’s worth of design history. Among his treasures was a roll of tobacco-and-black striped fabric from Backhausen, a legendary Austrian textile house, which he skillfully repurposed into fluid trousers and a tailored vest. His studio, cluttered with “forgotten objects” and a plethora of buttons, served as inspiration for prints that now infuse the collection. The striped themes emerged from the layers of tape and Post-its littering his workspace, providing a unique narrative to his designs.

The designer, who shapes his garments “by feeling,” draws deep inspiration from real-life encounters. Recognizing the need for inclusivity in fashion, he highlights one of his models, Mrs. Ida—who was initially one of his clients. His journey revealed that older women often lack playful fashion options. Thus, Arbesser uses inventive color palettes and volumetric silhouettes to cater to varied generations. “While there is a sense of drama in our styles, they’re designed for real people,” he notes. A standout feature of this collection is an exciting lingerie line born from a collaboration with Hanro. In a mind-bending twist, Arbesser injects vibrancy and energy into the celebrated Swiss brand, which has predominantly offered white nightwear for the last 140 years. The 15-piece collection in checkerboard and vichy patterns encapsulates Arbesser’s core philosophy of shared joy and the celebration of identity through clothing.
