Dakota Johnson has emerged as a trendsetter in the realm of sheer and sultry fashion—this Materialists star embodies the essence of a ‘see-through material girl,’ often opting for stunning designs by Gucci.

Most recently, Johnson attended the Zurich Film Festival to accept the prestigious Golden Eye Award. For this special event, she donned a custom high-neck, long-sleeve gown featuring a drop waist and voluminous gathered skirt in a striking brilliant shade of purple blue. This exquisite Gucci piece showcased sheer embroidered fabric that elegantly hugged her figure before flaring out at the hips. Complementing her look, Johnson accessorized with silver and black cocktail rings and wore her iconic bangs alongside her long waist-length hair styled loose.

Johnson’s stylist, Kate Young, has propelled her into a realm of fashion that embraces a brand-agnostic approach to naked dressing. For a more relaxed interpretation of this bold sheer trend, she previously donned a see-through Khaite bodysuit paired with denim. Notable transparent red carpet appearances include a striking floral Gucci gown, worn with black underwear at the Kering Foundation’s Caring For Women event, as well as a sensuously panelled brown Nensi Dojaka dress.

This latest ensemble not only updates the sheer dress trend for the fall season but does so with an added touch of warmth and practicality. Johnson’s heavier skirt lends a more seasonal flair, and the electric violet hue—coined by my colleague Hannah Jackson—adds a vibrant punch. This particular color, reminiscent of the bold purples showcased on the fall 2025 runways, continues to resonate into spring 2026 collections, from a pleated Prada offering in Milan to a silky sheer presentation by Colleen Allen. Under the guidance of Gucci’s new artistic director, Demna, Johnson is poised for even more dramatic red carpet moments that highlight her penchant for sensuality.

As we enter gala and awards seasons, it seems that the naked dressing trend is here to stay, with Dakota Johnson undoubtedly continuing to lead the conversation in this captivating fashion domain.
