Skylar Thompson, the backup quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, was reportedly attacked and robbed while wandering the streets of Dublin ahead of his team’s international game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Tom Pelissero, a seasoned sports journalist now affiliated with NFL Network, broke the story, revealing that a group of assailants targeted Thompson around 3 AM local time on a Saturday, as he roamed the vibrant streets of the Irish capital.
Fortunately, Pelissero later updated that Thompson, despite the traumatic experience, only sustained minor injuries from the incident.
A spokesperson for the Steelers, Burt Lauten, issued a thoughtful statement to TMZ: “We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin. We will have no further comment at this time as we coordinate with NFL security to collect more details about the incident.”
Efforts to gain official commentary from the NFL Players Association are ongoing; thus far, there has been no response.
In a remarkable display of resilience, the Steelers managed to secure a victory over the Vikings, triumphing 24-21 despite the unfortunate events that transpired just hours before the game. This win improves their record to 3-1 for the season.
Thompson, drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round back in 2022, has participated in a total of 10 games across his three-year career and is currently in his first year with Pittsburgh, although he has yet to make any in-game appearances this season.
