Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) stated that he will not resort to labeling his adversaries as “Nazis or fascists,” while simultaneously dismissing any possibility of switching parties in an interview on “Sunday Morning Futures” this week.

“I’m not switching. I’m choosing to be an independent voice within the Democratic Party. Fear of others will not deter me,” he asserted in his conversation with Maria Bartiromo from Fox News.

“When factions are attacking a Democrat, especially the last remaining one in Pennsylvania, that signifies an issue within our party. If you seek a Democrat willing to label others as Nazis or fascists, then I am not that individual… I believe in speaking the truth, irrespective of whether it’s from a Republican or Democratic stance,” he added.

The Pennsylvania Democrat, who has frequently diverged from party lines on matters concerning the Israel-Hamas conflict, reiterated his support for Israel and condemned the notion of a government shutdown as “always wrong,” as accusations fly between party members and Republicans.

“That’s my stance, and if it positions me as an outlier, then so be it,” he remarked.

His statements come in the context of former President Trump’s approach to achieving peace in Gaza, outlined in a 21-point plan, as Congressional members prepare for a potential partial government shutdown as the September 30 deadline for a continuing resolution looms.

Fetterman expressed some appreciation for Trump, noting he was “very pleased” with Trump’s backing of Israel and criticized key allies of the US for intending to recognize a Palestinian state, which he deemed a “reward for Hamas.”

“When individuals are being held underground, subjected to torture and starvation, going on two years… it’s a concession to Hamas. That will become their narrative. They will assert, ‘That’s why we did 10/7 [2023], that founded our nation,’ and I can never concede to that,” he stated.
