Israel’s military chief, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, addressed soldiers and commanders on the eve of the one-year anniversary of the 2023 Hamas attack, declaring that Israel is engaged in a “long war” against its enemies. He praised the dedication and bravery of the troops as the region faced escalating violence and uncertainty. Halevi emphasized that each day is increasingly difficult for their adversaries.

The attack by Hamas on Israeli border towns on October 7, 2023, known as the ‘Al-Aqsa Flood’, resulted in the deaths of over a thousand civilians and triggered the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Israel commemorated the anniversary with memorials at the massacre sites, while Hamas claimed that the attack shattered Israel’s perceived superiority.

Halevi acknowledged the failure to protect Israeli citizens during the attack and vowed that there would be no respite for those seeking to destroy the country once the war is over. He highlighted the emergence of a new generation of warriors with valuable experience from the conflict, stating that Israel had dealt significant blows to both Hamas and Hezbollah.

The ongoing conflict sees Israel facing threats from Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Iran, which recently launched missile strikes in response to the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Despite the challenges, Halevi affirmed that Israel would continue to destroy its enemies’ capabilities to prevent a repeat of past tragedies.

As tensions rise with Iran’s involvement in the conflict, Israel faces a daunting task ahead. The global community, including the US, has urged restraint to avoid a full-scale war and its potential repercussions on oil prices and regional stability.

Halevi’s message aimed to inspire the troops as the focus of the war shifted towards Lebanon and Iran, with the ultimate goal of ensuring Israel’s security and preventing future attacks. The commander-in-chief’s words underscored the ongoing challenges faced by Israel in the volatile region.
