“Saturday Night Live” has welcomed seven new writers to its talented team in anticipation of Season 51.

The latest additions to the writing staff include a diverse group of creative minds: actor-writer Jack Bensinger, known for “Rap World”; stand-up comedian Jo Sunday, who gained recognition at Just for Laughs; Maddie Wiener, who has made appearances on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”; Rachel Pegram, a versatile performer from “Harley Quinn”; Claire McFadden, a seasoned writer-comedian from Second City; and newcomers Maxwell Gay and Tucker Flodman, both of whom hail from The Harvard Lampoon. Notably, Auguste White has departed from the “SNL” writing team.

Following a monumental 50th season, “SNL” is set to kick off Season 51 on October 4, with global superstar Bad Bunny taking on hosting duties and Doja Cat as the musical guest. Subsequent episodes will see beloved alumna Amy Poehler return to host on October 11, alongside music act Role Model, and Sabrina Carpenter will showcase her talents as both host and musical guest on October 18.

Leading up to this new season, “SNL” has also seen a shift in its cast lineup, with several familiar faces bidding farewell. Notable exits include Heidi Gardner, who has been with the show for eight seasons, and Ego Nwodim, who announced her departure after seven. Additional cast members leaving include Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, and John Higgins from Please Don’t Destroy. On the positive side, Martin Herlihy has transitioned to the writing staff, while Ben Marshall has joined the main cast, alongside new cast members Veronika Slowikowska, Kam Patterson, Jeremy Culhane, and Tommy Brennan.

During the Emmys red carpet event, “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels commented on the dynamic changes within the cast, stating, “The show has always brought in people from various ages and generations, which is key to its revival. While it’s difficult when members depart, it’s a part of the cycle, and our audience remains relatively young—especially now with the influence of TikTok.”

He added, “Change is good. I’m genuinely excited about the new talent we’re bringing on board.”
