Ted Cruz’s Slip-Up Sparks Online Fury During Senate Hearing

During a Senate hearing on crime in Democrat-led cities, Texas Senator Ted Cruz faced immediate backlash for a significant verbal blunder when he unintentionally stated, “Let’s stop attacking pedophiles.” This gaffe occurred while he was passionately advocating for a bipartisan effort to enhance safety in urban areas.

In his impassioned remarks during the session, Cruz, 54, initially called for collective action against serious crimes. “How about we all come together and say ‘Let’s stop murders,’” he implored. However, in what many interpreted as a slip of the tongue, he proceeded to say, “Let’s stop attacking pedophiles,” before quickly moving on to commend President Trump for deploying the National Guard in Washington, D.C.

Critics were swift to respond to Cruz’s misstatement, with many making connections to ongoing conspiracy theories surrounding the late Jeffery Epstein, a convicted pedophile. One user on X (formerly Twitter) remarked, “No! How about you all stop protecting them. Release the Epstein files, NOW!”

Another commentator described the incident as “an insane Freudian slip,” while a third shared an image of a hat stating “PEDOPHILIA IS OK NOW,” further underscoring the social media reaction to Cruz’s words.

Others on social platforms took the opportunity to humorously deride Cruz, suggesting that the act of “attacking pedophiles” is, “mean, guys, let them be,” highlighting the absurdity of the slip.

Earlier in the same hearing, titled “Blue City Chaos and Tragedy: How the Trump Administration is Addressing the Human Cost of Soft On Crime Policies,” Cruz reiterated sentiments expressed by Senator Cory Booker the previous week about the necessity of bipartisan efforts to address safety concerns within communities.

Cruz seemed to have meant to express a call to action to “stop pedophiles,” rather than “attack,” but no correction or statement had been issued by Cruz’s office as of Wednesday morning.
