Kim Kardashian and
Kris Jenner have filed a lawsuit against singer
Ray J, alleging defamation stemming from his claims regarding a supposed federal RICO investigation targeting them.
The lawsuit asserts that Ray J is attempting to leverage the Kardashians’ notoriety, following a brief relationship with Kim that concluded two decades ago.
Allegedly, Ray J first suggested that the Kardashians could be facing criminal charges during a feature on TMZ back in May, proposing that
racketeering allegations would be “appropriate.”
Ray J further amplified these claims during a livestream on September 24, in which he stated, “The federal RICO I’m about to drop on Kris and Kim is about to be crazy,” insinuating that “the feds is coming,” as indicated in the legal complaint.
The lawsuit characterizes Ray J’s public declarations as “blatantly false,” emphasizing that “no such federal investigation exists.” It continues to assert that his actions constitute a serious abuse of social media channels to propagate lies regarding non-existent criminal investigations, fully aware that such falsehoods could irreparably harm the plaintiffs’ reputations and livelihoods.
The document points out a consistent pattern of provocative and sensational statements from Ray J over the years.
To substantiate a defamation case, Ray J’s remarks would need to extend beyond hostile opinions, making claims that can be proven false.
The complaint cites Ray J claiming, “The feds is coming, there’s nothing I can do about it,” and advising, “Anybody that is cool with Kim, they need to tell her now, the rain is coming, the feds is coming.”
Additionally, he remarked, “It’s worse than Diddy,” alluding to the recent federal trafficking and RICO charges against Sean “Diddy” Combs.
These comments garnered attention, notably being reported by TMZ, resulting in the Kardashians finding themselves at the center of a media frenzy speculating about their purported illegal activities.
Kardashian and Jenner are represented by Alex Spiro, an attorney known for taking on high-profile celebrity cases.
“Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian have never pursued a defamation suit before nor have they been swayed by public discourse, but this grave and unfounded allegation left them no other option,” Spiro stated.
