A tragic incident occurred involving a 7-year-old boy who lost his life after becoming trapped in a car window while his mother, allegedly under the influence, was found unconscious in the front seat. Authorities have charged her with murder.

The boy, Mazi Simmons, was discovered unresponsive with his head protruding from the backseat window of a car parked outside an Atlanta residence in April, according to a warrant acquired by People Magazine.

According to the document, his mother, Kandice Grace, 32, was found “passed out in the driver’s seat,” while two of her other children were also present in the vehicle.

Grace was arrested on Monday and faced charges of second-degree murder along with second-degree cruelty to children. Tests revealed the presence of opioids and THC in her system, as per the warrant details.

A witness recounted that Grace had visited his home around 10 p.m. the previous night but chose to leave her children in the car, not wanting them to come inside. She departed shortly thereafter, according to authorities.

The next morning, the witness noticed the vehicle still parked, with the young boy’s head visible “hanging out of the window,” as stated in the warrant.

The witness attempted to wake Grace by banging on the car, prompting police to rush her unconscious son to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Law enforcement discovered Grace at a neighbor’s residence with her youngest child. “While trying to talk with Ms. Grace, investigators observed her losing consciousness repeatedly while seated and holding her child,” the warrant alleges.
