Riley Keough recently appeared on a CBS special with Oprah Winfrey at Graceland, the Presley family estate, to discuss her new book “From Here to the Great Unknown.” The book, completed after her mother Lisa Marie Presley’s passing in 2022, delves into the deep grief Lisa Marie experienced in her final years, despite overcoming a drug addiction.

One of the most talked-about stories from the book is Lisa Marie’s reluctance to let go of her son, Ben, after his tragic suicide in 2020. Keough revealed that Lisa Marie kept Ben’s body at home for two months, struggling to decide on a burial location while finding solace in having him close by.

While some may find Lisa Marie’s actions unconventional, Keough defended her mother’s grieving process, likening it to practices in non-Western societies. She shared a poignant moment when a tattoo artist visited to replicate Ben’s tattoos on family members, showcasing the unique ways Lisa Marie coped with her loss.

The book also sheds light on Lisa Marie’s battle with addiction, which resurfaced after giving birth to twins at 40. Despite successfully completing rehab, the combination of ongoing grief and neglecting her health raised concerns about Lisa Marie’s well-being in her final year.

Despite the challenges, Keough highlighted moments of hope in Lisa Marie’s life, including her desire to help others through grief work and podcasting. The special with Winfrey also featured lighter moments, showcasing the bond between the two women and sharing nostalgic artifacts from Graceland.

Reflecting on her fondest memory of her mother, Keough recalled Lisa Marie’s unconditional love for her granddaughter, Tupelo. Despite their struggles, Keough emphasized the enduring love and bond they shared.

As the special came to a close, Winfrey expressed confidence that Lisa Marie would be proud of their conversation, symbolizing the enduring connection between the Presley family and their loved ones.
