Alabama defensive back Malachi Moore will not face a suspension for his actions during the game against Vanderbilt, as confirmed by coach Kalen DeBoer. Moore’s behavior, which included throwing his mouthpiece, refusing to be subbed out, and kicking the ball, resulted in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Despite this, Moore will start in the upcoming game against South Carolina.

In a public apology on social media, Moore expressed regret for his actions and took full responsibility for his behavior. Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack explained that the decision to substitute Moore was to help him calm down, although it may not have been the right time to do so. Wommack praised Moore for handling the situation well and taking accountability for his actions.

Coach DeBoer commended Moore for his character and leadership, highlighting his role in keeping the team united during the coaching transition. Moore, along with other players, was named a permanent captain before the season started. DeBoer emphasized Moore’s dedication to Alabama football and his willingness to learn from his mistakes.

In a separate development, it was reported that Jehiem Oatis plans to redshirt for the remainder of the season and enter the transfer portal. Oatis, who had limited playing time this season due to injuries, will have two years of eligibility remaining. Coach DeBoer acknowledged Oatis’ decision, citing health and personal reasons for his choice to step back from the team.

Oatis, a former four-star recruit, showed promise in his first season but struggled with injuries in subsequent years. Despite his potential, his inability to stay healthy impacted his performance on the field. Alabama’s defensive line depth will be affected by Oatis’ departure, as he brought size, experience, and production when fully fit.

Moving forward, the focus remains on the players who are committed to helping the team succeed. Wommack stressed the importance of having players who are dedicated to winning games and contributing to the team’s success. Alabama will continue to support Oatis in his decision and prioritize the well-being of all players.
