The Rainmaker Finale Will Have Multiple Cliffhangers Ahead of Season 2

The Rainmaker continuously delivers unexpected twists, and viewers can look forward to even more surprises in the show’s upcoming finale.

In a recent exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Lana Parrilla hinted that the USA Network production has much more in store. “Every character has a unique arc,” she expressed. “It leaves us with an open-ended question of, ‘What will happen with these characters and their evolving relationships?’”

Parrilla, age 48, emphasized that each character will encounter personal challenges.

“You really connect with all these characters, their narratives and how they relate to each other. There are so many more seasons and stories waiting to be explored,” she stated. “It’s thrilling and suspenseful, fitting the legal thriller genre perfectly.”

As season 2 approaches, The Rainmaker promises to deliver “beautiful cliffhangers” at the conclusion of each episode. “Our season finale is quite stimulating,” Parrilla remarked. “It’s suspenseful and thrilling. It certainly lays the groundwork for what’s to come.”

Inspired by John Grisham’s 1995 novel of the same name, The Rainmaker centers on young lawyer Rudy (Milo Callaghan), who, after being ousted from his elite firm, collaborates with small-time attorney Bruiser. Rudy later confronts his former employer in court. The book was turned into a film by Francis Ford Coppola in 1997, featuring Mickey Rourke and Matt Damon.

The adaptation of The Rainmaker by USA Network introduces notable changes compared to both the original novel and film, including gender-swapping Parrilla’s role.

“I feel Bruiser is a compelling character to gender swap for numerous reasons. Primarily, her portrayal as a woman adds significant power. In the novel, Bruiser is depicted as quite dubious and questionable,” she confided to Us. “In the film, Bruiser, played by Mickey Rourke, is featured early on but later departs for the Caribbean.”

Following the film’s release, Parrilla has been eager to delve deeper into her character.

“Rudy has several maternal figures throughout the series, but Bruiser stands out by providing tough love. She serves as his coach and mentor, challenging him to think outside conventional boundaries,” she explained. “Their relationship is unique and one that would differ significantly if Bruiser were male; it would likely devolve into an ego clash.”

Parrilla elaborated: “Her effectiveness increases as a woman, impacting Rudy and the courtroom dynamics. She embodies intelligence, sass, and strong instincts. This version of Bruiser is undeniably more fascinating.”

The Rainmaker premieres on USA Network every Friday at 10 p.m. ET.
