Former NFL quarterback and current analyst for Fox Sports, Mark Sanchez, has been admitted to a hospital after sustaining injuries from a stabbing incident that took place in downtown Indianapolis on the evening of October 3. Reports state that he is currently in stable condition.

The story first broke via TMZ Sports early Sunday, with Fox Sports later confirming Sanchez’s hospitalization with an official statement.

In a statement released by Fox, it was mentioned, “Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition. We are sincerely thankful to the medical team for their outstanding care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we kindly ask that everyone respects his and his family’s privacy during this difficult time.”

Sanchez was reportedly in town for the NFL matchup scheduled for October 5 between the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders at Lucas Oil Stadium. It remains unclear if he will be able to attend or serve as an analyst for the game.

Details regarding the assailant have not been disclosed; however, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department indicates that this was not a random act, but rather an isolated incident. Another individual was also injured during the incident and sustained lacerations.

Originally a first-round draft pick by the New York Jets in 2009, Sanchez played five seasons with the team before moving to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014. He later played as a backup quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, the Chicago Bears, and the Washington Redskins, retiring in 2018. Since the 2021 season, he has taken on the role of color analyst for the NFL on Fox and Fox Sports 1.
