A man from Florida was caught speeding at over 100 miles per hour on the highway and explained to the deputy who stopped him that he was running late for a haircut.
“Why are you driving so fast?” an officer from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office asked 57-year-old Michael Stanek, captured on body camera footage. Stanek replied, “I have an appointment with my barber.”
On September 23, Stanek, a resident of Welaka, was en route to New Smyrna Beach when he was apprehended in Palm Coast.
The two locations are situated over an hour’s drive apart, and the body camera footage indicates the time was after 6 p.m.
The deputy informed Stanek that he would spend the night in jail due to his reckless behavior, which included “weaving in and out of traffic” and “putting other people’s lives at risk.”
Stanek was charged with dangerous excessive speeding.
He was taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and subsequently released after posting a $150 bond, according to a post on Facebook by the FCSO. FCSO said in a Facebook update.
The post concluded with a reminder: “So, stick to the speed limit… even if you’re running late for a haircut.”
Stanek’s vehicle, referred to as a “super speeder,” was towed from the scene.
