Amidst an unforgettable Paris fashion season filled with excitement and chaos, how does a young, budget-friendly label carve out its niche? For Luis de Javier, the solution wasn’t a traditional runway show but rather “24 Hours of Love and Labor,” an innovative livestream performance broadcasting directly from a Marais storefront.
Before the technology came alive, curious spectators gathered outside a display on Rue de Turenne, watching as the bare-chested designer and his dedicated team—including set and makeup artists, seamstresses, photographers, stylists, and models—prepared for an extensive night of work. Lookbook photo sessions were planned from 8 PM to midnight, followed by showroom activities and e-commerce shoots lasting until 6 AM, as the designer noted.
“I’m the only one working through the night, but I might need a little rest,” he admitted while his dressmakers finished the last details on the 25 outfits set to be unveiled in Paris. “However, being a bit of a control freak, I wanted to give the world a glimpse into my process with my amazing team.”
The garments showcased were inspired by the flamenco dancer and choreographer Rocío Molina, whose unconventional approach merges creative risk with the avant-garde. Drawing from beloved Spanish cultural elements, de Javier incorporated motifs from flamenco and bullfighting—think flares and polka dots. Exquisitely embroidered shawls, matador-style jackets, and capes were reimagined into women’s fashion, featuring a high-waisted fuchsia peplumed skirt, tailored shorts, knotted leather halter necks, embossed trousers, mesmerizing animal prints, and stylish “leather daddy” matador hats. For the daring dressers, designs included quilted cone bras, daring laser-cut latex pieces, and the newest versions of de Javier’s famed stiletto thigh-highs, all of which would fit right in on the streets of Pigalle. The accessories, particularly the hair comb sunglasses, brought an amusingly kitschy flair. Back in Barcelona, de Javier leads a talented team that excels in their craft. With a collection that has already attracted attention from celebrities like Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Kim Kardashian, it’s exciting to see the designer navigating towards more understated, everyday designs—a crisp white shirt, tailored blazers, and fitted trousers—that anyone can wear.
