A plane bound for New Jersey had to make an unexpected landing in Chicago due to a disruptive passenger who was ranting about how gay individuals were causing him health issues.
The Sun Country Airlines flight had departed from Minneapolis and was scheduled to reach Newark; however, the situation escalated, leading to the pilot’s decision to divert to Chicago after the man’s alarming protests of “the plane is going down.”
An eyewitness, Seth Evans, seated across the aisle, recounted the bizarre happenings to the Minnesota Star Tribune, indicating that the chaos commenced immediately as the aircraft took off. The passenger’s complaints included claims of being “gang chased” by gay individuals.
The man also shouted that he was being “radiated” and “cooked” by gay individuals, in addition to accusing them of causing him cancer, according to Evans.
To protect himself, the disturbed individual was reportedly wearing “no less than 15 masks,” as mentioned by Evans.
At one point, he declared, “Trump is here,” before continuing his loud rants. Despite his antics, he occasionally paused to play Candy Crush on his phone, only to resume yelling moments later.
However, the situation became critical when he began expressing fears about the aircraft crashing.
Upon landing at O’Hare International Airport, police took the man into custody, handcuffing him as they escorted him off the plane.
Passengers were then interviewed by US Marshals before the aircraft resumed its journey to Jersey.
Sun Country Airlines confirmed to the Tribune that, “The flight landed without incident and the passenger in question was turned over to law enforcement and removed from the aircraft. We appreciate our passengers’ patience during the interruption to their travels.”
